When the AAA was founded in 2023, the goal was simple: to bring Auckland's aquarium hobbyists together in person. In the three years since then, the AAA has held 33 meetings, hosted five NZ speakers from outside Auckland, welcomed two overseas speakers, enjoyed three Christmas parties, run two very different aquascaping contests, and organised a club outing to a goldfish farm.
We also became incorporated and are now officially the Auckland Aquarium Association Inc.
We are the largest and fastest-growing aquarium society in New Zealand. We have well over 1,000 members in our Facebook Group. On average, around 40 people attend our monthly meetings, and we have more than 30 financial members. Please sign up to support the club! The 10% discount offered by our sponsoring businesses will make the $25 annual membership fee pay for itself in no time.
Those businesses are The Aquascape Shop, Fintastic Studio, Legacy, New Pupuke Aquarium, and AquaRay's. In addition, we are sponsored by 2hr Aquarist. Thank you to the Auckland businesses that support the AAA in so many ways!
Our constitution requires us to have three officers: president, treasurer, and secretary. Those roles are filled by Frank, Mila, and Bobby. In addition, we have a dedicated team of people who help with meetings and other activities: Rebecca, Charlotte, Eddie, Garth, David, Gill, Barry, Haymishq and Jivishq. Tony is our webmaster, and Ebony looks after our social media. Many thanks to everyone who puts in the extra effort!
At the Triple A Turns Three meeting, people shared what they like most about the club. Unanimously, it was getting together with other aquarium enthusiasts and meeting them face to face. At the first meeting, there was a room full of strangers. Now people know each other by name. They have traded fish and plants within and beyond the AAA. They have visited each other's homes. They carpool to meetings. They help each other out. That's what the AAA is all about.
At the same time, we have new people coming to every meeting. Check it out! Introduce yourself, or just enjoy a tea, coffee, biscuit, or slice. Caramel Crunch remains a club favourite. All meetings are free and open to the public.
In just three years, the AAA has come a long way, and we have plans for much more. Come and join us. You can simply enjoy the meetings, or get involved and help shape the future of the club.
We'd love to see you at our next meeting!
